Attorney Samuel Liverseed spoke recently at the 21st Annual Wisconsin Association of Worker’s Compensation Attorneys (WAWCA) Seminar in Madison. On July 25th, Sam gave an interesting and entertaining speech about legal ethics, centered on attorney depictions in movies. He pointed out difficult ethical situations shown by attorneys on screen, while discussing how attorneys are portrayed in media over time (in positive and increasingly negative light).
His speech showed attorneys in a wide array of situations (from inspiring, to humorous, to incredibly questionable). He talked about:
- Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird
- Jack Brigance (portrayed by Matthew McConaughey) in A Time To Kill
- My Cousin Vinny
- Danny DeVito’s character in The Rainmaker
- Michael Clayton
- Jim Carey in Liar Liar
Sam’s speech helped generate significant discussion about how attorneys are perceived in society and the value of ethical behavior in all actions to combat any potential negative stereotypes.
